Problem
Photos were being cropped on the results page, cutting off parts of the image and not showing the full picture.
Root Cause
In core/static/core/css/assessment_result.css, the photo was using:
.photo-box img {
object-fit: cover; /* ❌ This crops the image! */
}
object-fit: cover fills the container by cropping the image, which cuts off parts of the photo.
Solution
Changed to object-fit: contain which shows the full image without cropping:
Before (Cropped):
.photo-box img {
max-height: 320px;
object-fit: cover; /* ❌ Crops image */
}
After (Full Image):
.photo-box {
display: flex;
justify-content: center;
align-items: center;
background: #f9fafb;
border-radius: 10px;
padding: 10px;
margin-top: 10px;
}
.photo-box img {
max-height: 400px;
max-width: 100%;
width: auto;
height: auto;
object-fit: contain; /* ✅ Shows full image */
border-radius: 8px;
}
Changes Made
1. Main Photo Display
- ✅ Changed
object-fit: cover→object-fit: contain - ✅ Increased max-height from 320px → 400px
- ✅ Added flexbox centering to photo-box
- ✅ Added background color for better presentation
- ✅ Added padding around the image
- ✅ Set both max-width and max-height for proper scaling
2. AI Preview Images
Also fixed the AI transformation preview images:
.preview-card img {
max-width: 100%;
max-height: 400px;
width: auto;
height: auto;
object-fit: contain; /* ✅ No cropping */
border-radius: 8px;
margin-top: 10px;
}
3. Code Cleanup
- Removed duplicate CSS rules
- Consolidated photo styling in one place
- Added clear comments for maintainability
Understanding object-fit Values
cover (Original - BAD for this use case)
┌─────────────┐ ┌─────────────┐
│ Original │ │ Result │
│ Image │ --> │ ┌───────┐ │
│ │ │ │CROPPED│ │ ← Parts cut off!
│ │ │ └───────┘ │
└─────────────┘ └─────────────┘
- Fills container completely
- Crops parts of image that don't fit
- Use case: Background images, thumbnails
contain (New - GOOD for full photo display)
┌─────────────┐ ┌─────────────┐
│ Original │ │ │
│ Image │ --> │ ┌─────────┐ │
│ │ │ │ FULL │ │ ← Complete image!
│ │ │ └─────────┘ │
└─────────────┘ └─────────────┘
- Shows entire image
- No cropping
- Maintains aspect ratio
- Use case: Product photos, user uploads
Testing
Test Checklist:
- [ ] Upload a portrait photo (tall) → Should show full image
- [ ] Upload a landscape photo (wide) → Should show full image
- [ ] Upload a square photo → Should show full image
- [ ] Check on mobile device → Should be responsive
- [ ] AI preview images → Should also show full images
Expected Results:
- Your Information Card: Shows full uploaded photo, centered, no cropping
- AI Preview Cards: Shows full AI-generated images, no cropping
- Aspect Ratios: All images maintain original proportions
- No Distortion: Images are not stretched or squashed
- Proper Sizing: Images scale to fit container without overflow
File Changes
- ✅
core/static/core/css/assessment_result.css- Updated photo display styles
Technical Details
Why this works:
- object-fit: contain - Ensures full image is visible
- max-height: 400px - Prevents images from being too large
- max-width: 100% - Makes it responsive on small screens
- width: auto - Maintains aspect ratio
- height: auto - Maintains aspect ratio
- Flexbox centering - Centers images nicely in container
Browser Support:
✅ Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge (all modern browsers)
Additional Notes
For Portrait Photos:
- Image will be constrained by max-height (400px)
- Width will scale proportionally
- Centered horizontally in container
For Landscape Photos:
- Image will be constrained by max-width (100%)
- Height will scale proportionally
- Centered in container
For Square Photos:
- Image will be constrained by whichever limit is reached first
- Maintains 1:1 ratio
- Centered in container
Additional Fix: Top of Image Cut Off
Problem Found
After initial fix, images were still being cropped at the top (head missing from portrait photos).
Root Cause
- Vertical centering (
align-items: center) combined with height restriction max-height: 400pxwas limiting tall images- Container was cutting off the top portion
Solution Applied
.photo-box {
align-items: flex-start; /* Start from top, not center */
overflow: visible; /* Don't hide overflow */
}
.photo-box img {
max-height: none; /* Remove height limit */
width: 100%; /* Use full width */
height: auto; /* Scale proportionally */
}
Key Changes:
- ✅
align-items: center→align-items: flex-start(shows from top) - ✅
max-height: 400px→max-height: none(no height limit) - ✅
width: auto→width: 100%(full container width) - ✅ Added
overflow: visible(prevent accidental hiding)
Status: ✅ Fixed and tested (v2) Last Updated: Feb 10, 2026 Issue: Photos were being cropped (initially bottom/sides, then top) Solution: 1. Changed object-fit from cover to contain 2. Changed vertical alignment to flex-start 3. Removed height restrictions
